IVV - Electronics systems engineering intern

Toulouse, France

Located in

Internship

Type

January/February 2024

Starting from

You must have citizenship from a country of the European Union or NATO to apply to this position.

SpaceLocker develops innovative products allowing for plug-and-play interfacing of space hardware. In such context, you will partake in the Integration, Verification and Validation (IVV) process on real equipment (i.e: not simulated…) . You will be responsible for both supervising the development and verifying that systems conform to specified requirements or end-user needs.

You will work closely with the CTO of the company and the embedded/ground software teams to imagine, develop, and automate efficient testing procedures for the developed functionalities:

  • Identify the best practices and the tools to enable an efficient and systematic integration chain (i.e. from supplied bare component to testbench integrated component),

  • Help in the implementation/upgrade of the ground support equipment and the platforms that demonstrate the plug and play experience in SpaceLocker’s products (i.e. Satellite Control Center-like GUI for command/acquisition to/from the equipment), then define and run the testing operations needed to verify and validate both the software and the hardware,

  • Contribute to development or usage of equipment/satellite simulators to help the validation and verification processes,

  • Formalize and report bugs or non-conformities, perform non-regression campaign, make the test coverage and requirement traceability matrices.

The plus sides:

  • You will get involved in high-level discussions and design decisions from day one, and learn things you will never see at school,

  • True “subject matters expert” role within the scope of your subject, with freedom in execution to reach actual industrial achievements,

  • An interesting mix of in-house developments and procurement, that will prepare you well for a range of jobs in the industry,

  • The opportunity to develop your network and present to investors, partners and institutional actors,

  • If you do well, a full-time offer after the internship, with the opportunity to help the company grow from a key position.

Monthly allowance is 1000 euro after tax, with room for negotiation depending on your qualifications, profile, and personal conditions. Standard internship benefits apply (lunch stipend, public transportation pass subsidy, etc.). Some help can be provided with relocation costs from your place of study, especially if you come from a country with lower purchasing power in Europe.

Your Profile

This list is not exhaustive nor exclusive. No self-censorship here, if you think your profile fits, even if not ticking all the boxes, feel free to apply and explain to us why in your first email!

Hard skills

  • You are a STEM student, in electrical engineering or a related subject,

  • You are comfortable with one or more programming language (for example Python, Java, C++, etc.),

  • You know how to handle electronics hardware, and are not scared of testing equipment like oscilloscope or logic analyzers,

  • You have some experience in software testing, for example unit testing. Familiarity with Hardware in the Loop methods is a plus,

  • You are interested in user interface development (using Qt, Grafana…),

  • You are not afraid of technical subjects you don’t know yet, and have diverse skills in your toolbox.

  • Don’t hesitate to show us a bit of what you’ve done!

Soft skills

  • You like practical, hands-on projects, and show autonomy. The startup world is a bit messy sometimes, and we’ll need your help on unexpected topics to keep up with the swirl of things going on,

  • You know how to communicate about your results, including conveying their interest to a non-technical public,

  • Being curious about space is a big plus!

About the Company

SpaceLocker aims to make satellite missions more efficient and sustainable.

To achieve this, we develop shared satellite missions or more technically in-orbit payload hosting. This hosting service enables any organization to launch easily and quickly sensors or experiments to harvest space data without having to hassle with the technical satellite and space segment part. On the other side, by sharing higher-end space infrastructure, our customers increase their performances and reduce the environmental impact of their missions both regarding emissions and debris production. Technically, this is made possible thanks to a technological stack combining proprietary hardware and cloud-inspired software into a "space USB for satellites" that enables this revolutionary plug-and-play effect.

We are not trying to build a dog picture blockchain nor a hotel on the Moon, but a rock-solid company that will provide the foundations for the next generation of space exploration. This intention is anchored to a strong technical expertise, a quick prototyping approach and a direct link to the market.

SpaceLocker is a company firmly engaged about diversity and inclusivity, of age, gender, origins, handicap or any other characteristic (and we are aware of the slight irony, the founder team being the most average white guys you can imagine 😀). Progress and inclusion are not just corporate speech: we are aware it needs actual efforts and compromises.
